Can I live without cheese for 2 weeks?

I watched this documentary on Netflix called “What the Health” by the same dude that did “Cowspiracy” which I saw a couple of years ago. Around that time, I thought I’d try being vegan for a little while, just to see how it went. I’d been having some sporadic stomach issues and my skin wasn’t where I wanted it to be and everything in this documentary was basically like, “if all you eat is plants your life will be AMAZING”. That, plus the fact that I’m a massive hypochondriac basically convinced me to give it a shot.

The one thing the documentary DOESN’T tell you though, is that everything in the fucking store has some cheese or dairy product in it if it’s packaged. So I pretty much failed right off the bat and gave it up as a bad job. However, I did successfully decide to become pescatarian as a compromise on being truly veg (I love me some sushi). So that’s been my “lifestyle” for the past 2+ years. Anyway, still experiencing those stomach and skin problems so clearly poultry/red meat (which I hadn’t been eating much of in the first place) wasn’t my issue.

One thing I always notice is that whenever I go on vacation out of the country (I’m a lucky bitch, I know) I feel AMAZING. And I mean, granted, being on vacation in another country is fucking awesome and being away from work is DEFINITELY a factor. But my skin always looks amazing too! Last summer, two of my friends and I went to Croatia and tbh I slipped a bit on the pescatarianism since we accidentally ordered something that had a bunch of prosciutto on it and I didn’t want to force our one non-vegger to eat ALL of it. Anyway, we also ate a fuckton of cheese. I felt totally fine after eating an entire cheese wedge, though, so now I’m pretty much convinced that it’s American food that’s the problem and not animal products themselves. I know that’s not necessarily what “Cowspiracy” and “What the Health” are trying to tell you though, so ya know, go on and be inspired to live your plant-based life in other countries, too.

I live in the US though (surprising to exactly no one), so it’s doubly a good idea for me to at least give it a shot, I think. We’ll see how it goes because I’m a huge cheese addict and I mean that literally because there’s a compound in milk that activates the same receptors in your brain that morphine does. Maybe. Jury’s still out. If the documentaries taught me anything, it’s that I can’t trust any studies on food ever. Because the money funding the study may come from the very industries the studies are targeting. Or the people heading the organizations that fund the studies might be. So yeah. Anyway, it can’t be THAT hard to be vegan for two weeks…
